General Information

Chairman
Dr Pierre Lofaro LL.D. was born in 1955. He received his education at De La Salle College, Cottonera. Dr. Lofaro was called to the Bar and admitted to the Chamber of Advocates in 1980 after reading law at the University of Malta.
He undertook general practice and was a partner in Grech Hyzler Tortell and later on in Grech Vella Tortell & Hyzler. Dr Lofaro, together with Dr. Michael Tanti-Dougall, estbalished Lofaro & Tanti-Dougall Law Firm in September 2001.
In his practice he has mainly dealt with civil and commercial matters and has undertaken both litigation and non-contentious work in these fields.
In 1988 he was appointed Arbitrator on the Partition of Inheritances Tribunal. He was appointed Chairman of the Malta Stock Exchange Tribunal on 27th May 1999 until it was merged with the Financial Services Tribunal in 2002. He has also been chairing the Financial Services Tribunal since 9th February 1999.
Dr. Lofaro is married to Magistrate Abigail Lofaro.


Members
Mr Frank Bonello FCIB was appointed a member of the Malta Stock Exchange Tribunal on the 27th May 1999, a position he held until the 30th September 2002. Mr Bonello was appointed a member of the Financial Services Tribunal on the 9th February 1999 and re-appointed for another three year period on 1st February 2002.

Mr. Bonello was a career banker until his retirement in 1998. He joined Barclays Bank in 1954, obtaining his Banking Diploma in 1970 and elected to Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in 1985. He joined Lombard Bank (Malta) Ltd in 1971 and retired in 1998 as General Manager, Administration and Business Development of Lombard Bank Malta plc.

Mr Mario Bonello ACIB was a member of the Malta Stock Exchange Tribunal from the 27th May 1999 to 30th September 2002. He was also appointed member of the Financial Services Tribunal on 9th February 1999 for a three year period which was again renewed for a further three years on 1st February 2002.

He has a long career in banking which started in 1956 with the National Bank of Malta. He joined the Central Bank of Malta on the 1st March 1969 and occupied various executive roles within the Central Bank including Head of Exchange Control, Information Technology Department and Banking & Issues Office. He was also a member on the Management Executive Committee. For a number of years he served as Governor at the M.I.B.A. (now MALTA FINANCIAL SERVICES AUTHORITY (Awtorità Ghas-Servizzi Finanzjarji ta' Malta)) and was the first General Manager of the Malta Stock Exchange. Mr Bonello took an early retirement from the Central Bank, in September 1996. He is an Associate of the Institute of Bankers, London.
